Sapphire Home Improvements was established in 1991 when Roger and Mandy Hoare made the decision to take up the challenge of running their own small business.  Roger had been employed for many years within the building and double-glazing industries; as a time-served carpenter, then moving on to double-glazing as a fitter and later as a surveyor, he had built up a very sound background knowledge of the range of products available and all aspects of surveying and fitting.

In those early years, he could be found fitting in the daytime and providing consultations in the evenings, with Mandy juggling her duties as a mother with those of running the office side of the business.

From the beginning, the emphasis was on providing a quality product at an affordable cost, without the pressure-sales techniques employed by some competitors.

The business grew steadily but still retained the small family company ethos, with most work coming from recommendations and as a result of a reputation built up by high standards of workmanship and a good quality product.

It was 5 years later, in 1996, that the business had expanded so much that Roger had to step back from the fitting side to concentrate on surveying and the technical side of the business.  Mandy continued to keep the Company ticking over with her knowledge of book-keeping and her desire to run the business with a firm but friendly efficiency.

As a result of this expansion, the Company began to employ its own fitting teams.  This aspect is one on which the Company still places a high value.  Even now, when the business is fast expanding, we continue to use our own Company employed fitters.

The following year, in 1997, the company became Authorised Installers for Coastal Windows and Conservatories.  Coastal is a national company with their manufacturing base in Poole, Dorset.  Coastal have experience in the development, manufacture and supply of a quality range of PVCu products going back as far as 1971.  The awarding of 'Authorised Installer' status was gained as a result of the company's performance and integrity within the double-glazing industry.  This newly acquired status also means that Coastal's belief in Sapphire was strong enough to back our fully comprehensive 10-year guarantee with their own.  High praise indeed that a national, publicly quoted company has been willing to back the quality of the installation of their product with its own reputation.

In addition to this, Sapphire became Authorised Installers of Celuform Low Maintenance Home Improvement Products.  This high quality range of products including fascias, soffits and cladding can be used in any location to give years of maintenance free enjoyment in your home.  Celuform, like Coastal, are market leaders in the development of quality PVCu products.

In 1998, our status with Coastal was raised to that of Authorised Dealer, the strongest possible indication of Coastal's belief in Sapphire's ability, performance and integrity within the PVCu industry.  We are very proud to be one of only two Authorised Dealers in Cornwall and part of a nationwide network of around eighty dealerships.

Also in 1998, with the company continuing to grow, the opportunity became available to expand onto a prestigious Showsite at Carnon Downs Garden Centre, Cornwall's Premier Garden Centre.

This site has enabled the Company to provide conservatories for customers to sit in at their leisure, whilst contemplating the benefits of having one of their own.  It also provides space for us to set out samples of our window and other product ranges and is proving a tremendous asset to the Company.

Expanding from one room at home to a purpose-built office and Showsite has not detracted from the ethos of the company, which continues to provide a personal service with quality products.
